Are those summer rays taking you away from your fitness days?

Yes, I am right there with you. With this beautiful summer weather, warm temperatures and days that never seem to end, we do feel like we can skip a workout or two along the way. I took my kids to the park the other day - that counts, right? I played with my kids at the splash park, too - totally got some cardio in there! But when in all is said and done, how do we stick to our wellness routine when summer is calling?

What's your motivation?

This is a question that we all need to ask ourselves. Why do we take the time to put a little fitness into each and every day? Whether you head to the gym for a class, or call a girlfriend to go for a walk after work, there is something or someone that is drawing you to your workout. Maybe you like the way that you feel after you exercise, or maybe you need to de-stress after a long day at the office with some good ol’ sweat time. Whatever your “why” may be, you must identify it, figure out ways to get this factor into your day, and  embrace the power that you have once you exercise.

Be forgiving and enjoy it

So although this thought does seem to counter what I just wrote, be forgiving to yourself if you do decide to change it up a bit. Maybe your family is in town visiting, and your workout that day is to walk around the tourist sites. Perhaps you got a last minute invitation to a beach date, and you need to skip your morning workout to avoid the traffic. It’s all good! Just be mindful of your choices and why you are making them, and get back on track tomorrow.  

Make sure to get ready!

So now that you know why you need to get out there, let's make sure that you are ready. If you are motivated to get your fitness outdoors, do not forget the sunscreen and hydration - these are not just for the kiddos! How many times do we leave the house and have everything for the kids, but forget anything for ourselves - right? If you enjoy an indoor routine, then make sure that your gym bag is packed & ready to go the night before. We have our kids lay out their school clothes the night before, so why can’t we do that for ourselves? 

Take the time to take care of yourself and your fitness routine will fall into place. Enjoy the summer, relish those long & lazy days, and stay on track!
